What We Believe

Baptists are not a creedal people — that is, we are not required to adhere to a set statement of beliefs. Baptists believe in soul liberty, the right of each individual before God to seek the leading of the Holy Spirit in all matters without outside coercion. That being said, there are certain beliefs and emphases that unite us as Baptists. The following statement of faith is provided, not as a tool for excluding anyone, but as an indication of what people who call themselves Baptists tend to believe. As Baptists, we agree with John Wesley who said, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity”.  The following statement of faith is not intended to be comprehensive but is, rather, a summary of core beliefs.

In essential beliefs - we have unity.

In non-essential beliefs - we have liberty.

“There is one Body and one Spirit…there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all…”

Ephesians 4:4-6

“Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters… Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls…So then each of us will give an account of himself to God…So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.”

Romans 14:4,12,22

In all our beliefs - we show charity.

…If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have the faith that can move mountains — but have no love, I amount to nothing at all.

1 corinthians 13:2
