A Statement Against Racism

This past week, Donald Trump’s social media account shared a clip depicting former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama with their faces transposed onto a monkey-like illustration—an image rooted in racism, eugenics, and the Jim Crow era.

Such portrayals are not humorous, and they are not harmless.
They are sinful.

They wound.
They demean.
They stand in direct opposition to the heart of God.

As a Canadian Baptist church, we unequivocally reject racism, dehumanization, and any portrayal of people created in the image of God as less than fully human.

To our African Canadian and African American brothers and sisters:
We see you. We lament with you. And we stand with you.

You are beloved by God, created in His image, and indispensable to the body of Christ. Any attempt to strip away your dignity is an offense against God Himself.

Our Christian Witness

We pray for a world where words are used to heal rather than harm.
Where power is exercised with humility.
And where the church bears faithful witness to the reconciling love of Christ.

Scripture reminds us that justice is not optional for the people of God—it is essential to faithful discipleship.

As the prophet Amos wrote:

“Let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
(Amos 5:24)
