Read the Bible in a Year

Interested in reading through the Bible? There are three different reading plans available for download to set the pace. Each plan provides daily readings to enable the Bible to be read in one year and for the New Testament plan, to be read in three months. Use your copy as a checklist to keep track of your progress:

  • Chronological Plan – read the Bible in chronological order
  • Classic Plan – readings are selected from both the Old and New Testaments for each day
  • New Testament Plan – read the New Testament in chronological order

A memory verse is also provided for each week. The Scriptures offer encouragement in our daily lives and provide inspiration and strength to cope with life’s challenges. Don’t miss out on the blessings from reading through the Bible in a Year!

If You Fall Behind

Life happens! If you are behind in your daily readings, don’t despair! Here is how to get back into it:

  • Listen through the Bible for awhile: It is faster to have a professional reader lead you through the Bible. They read faster than most of us do, and all of their mistakes and distractions get edited out!  There are a huge number of resources online for free, or available for purchase. One is found at http://www.biblegateway.com with a variety of translations available. There is a weakness in that you have to press pause for those times you want to stop and contemplate things.  But there is the advantage of being able to stay where the other readers are and also still having exposure to the readings.
  • Skip what you have missed: This is a little less ideal, in that you will not be able to say that you read the entire Bible. If you get too far behind to recover, it is a viable option. By participating in this process, you are not claiming perfection, just growth and determination to do your best. It is more valuable for you to be caught up than to be so far behind that you quit.
  • Split your readings: If you are behind and want to catch up by reading on your own, another option is to split your readings. Take a pen and put a check mark on your last completed reading. Now go ahead to today’s reading. Do today’s reading first and then go back to where you left off and check off a chapter or two that you were able to read to catch up.  Every day make sure you get at least the reading of the day completed, so you are caught up with everyone else. Then you can go back and pick up the pieces you have left behind as you are able.
